Metrix has researched a variety of communication platforms to gain optimal results for Advanced Metering Infrastructure. Latest technologies using second and third generation general packet radio signal (GPRS) have been trialled with Elster collectors, using state-of-the-art modems for signal processing to and from back office systems. Extensive testing of numerous types of modem ensure the right communication hardware and software is used for each application.
Metrix utilises a unique Local Area Network (LAN) communication platform between gRex smart metering and collectors. With Wide Area Network (WAN) communication only deployed between collectors and back office systems, cost efficiencies and data speeds are maximised.
Special techniques leveraging data repeaters and directional aerial systems have been developed to allow deployment of gRex meters in rural environments. This delivers a cost-effective solution to non-urban locations and ultimately enables consumers to realise the benefits of smart metering services from their retailer.
